Description
This special program is a partnership between Historic Blakeley State Park, the Auburn University College of Liberal Arts, the David Mathews Center for Civic Life, and the University of South Alabama Research and Inservice Center. It is sponsored in part by the North Baldwin Chamber Foundation. Deliberation is an exciting, hands-on, interactive professional development experience that equips teachers with skills and tools to increase active civic learning in the classroom and beyond. Join us in learning how to integrate this technique for understanding important moments in America’s past by exploring the story of the colonies during the Revolutionary War. Teachers will also discover the context and outcome of Revolutionary War battles that took place in the Mobile and Baldwin County vicinity and strategize on ways in which local historical content can deepen student learning of American history. By learning how to facilitate having students talk through rather than just read about the choices confronting the participants in historical events, teachers will become equipped to help students take ownership of a variety of problems, better understand choices and consequences, and identify areas of common ground for taking action. Participation is FREE and teachers will be given PD credit. Complimentary lunch included along with a free excursion into the Mobile-Tensaw Delta on the park's cruise boat.
