Summary: The Director of Maintenance is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of all maintenance, facilities, fleet and equipment functions across the Solid Waste Disposal Authority (SWDA). This role ensures the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of facilities, mechanical systems, and heavy equipment through effective planning, budgeting, supervision, and performance management. The Director of Maintenance focuses on cost control, productivity improvements, fleet lifestyle management, asset management, and inventory oversight while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards. A significant level of personnel management and development is needed to maximize the productivity of the department’s personnel. Essential Job Functions Supervision: -Supervision over the Maintenance Manager, Facilities Manager, Mechanics and Senior Heavy Equipment Technician. -Assist and provide department managers with both technical assistance and direction in all responsible areas. -Ensure maintenance staff operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations. -Establish performance expectations, provide coaching, and support training, mentoring, and professional development of mechanics and technicians to strengthen technical capacity and safety and awareness. Administrative, Financial and Asset Management: -Track departmental costs and analyze maintenance spending to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements. -Develop, manage, and monitor maintenance budgets to ensure work is completed within approved financial constraints. -Increase productivity through improved maintenance planning, scheduling, and preventive maintenance programs. -Oversee inventory control, parts management, and procurement related to maintenance and facilities. -Oversee the process, development, and maintenance of accurate records for assets, equipment, warranties, and maintenance history. Safety & Compliance: -Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all maintenance operations. -Ensure compliance with environmental, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations. -Conduct inspections and audits of maintenance activities, equipment, fleet, and facilities to identify and mitigate risks. Maintenance Operations: -Provide oversight of day-to-day maintenance and repair operations for all SWDA facilities, fleet vehicles (including heavy trucks) and equipment. -Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance programs are effectively implemented to maintain reliability. -Perform or assist with emergency mechanical repairs as needed to support continuous operations. -Order and approve supplies, materials and services required for buildings, fleet, vehicles and equipment maintenance. -Ensure advanced troubleshooting practices, proper use of diagnostic tools and adherence to manufacturer specifications.
