MOBILE, Ala. (June 30, 2021) – The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) will receive a $4.8 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant to rehabilitate an apron at the Mobile Downtown Airport (BFM).
On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) announced eight airports in Alabama, including the Mobile Downtown Airport, will receive funding for various airport improvements. The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
“We especially want to express our gratitude to Senator Shelby for his support and assistance securing funding for the Mobile Downtown Airport,” said Chris Curry, Mobile Airport Authority President. “This project is one more step in improving our facility for future commercial air service, our current tenants, and potential economic development opportunities in our region.”
In his press release, Senator Shelby said, “These grants are important investments in the safety, security, and growth of our local airports, which contribute to our overall economic success. The improvements will support rural development and the quality of travel in Alabama. I look forward to their implementation and lasting benefits.”
This FAA grant is administered through the Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21) Airport Improvement Program (AIP).
