Mobile Symphony features one of Mozart’s greatest hits Nov. 8 & 9 at the Saenger
The Mobile Symphony Orchestra (MSO) features one of classical music’s
greatest hits – Mozart’s thrilling Clarinet Concerto – in Bohemia, Saturday, Nov. 8, at
7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 9, at 2:30 p.m., at Mobile’s historic Saenger Theatre.
The concert also includes two works that capture the spirit of Bohemia (the largest
historical region of the Czech Republic): Leoš Janáček's Lachian Dances and Dvořák's
Symphony No. 8.
“The Mobile Symphony is filled with incredible musicians. Nestled between our
two Bohemian masterpieces, we feature one of the country’s finest clarinetists: MSO’s
own Jonathan Holden,” Robert J. Seebacher, guest conductor, says. “He brings us
Mozart’s astoundingly virtuosic Clarinet Concerto.”
The concerto is one of the most beautiful works ever written for a wind
instrument. In short, it’s a blockbuster hit by one of the world’s most popular composers.
“The common thread running through this program is mastery,” Seebacher
explains. “In the hands of the MSO’s phenomenal musicians, these Bohemian
Inspirations will come to life, filled with the same awe and joy these composers captured
generations ago.”
Jonathan Holden is principal clarinetist of the Mobile Symphony. He is also
associate professor of clarinet at Florida State University, principal clarinetist of the West
Michigan Symphony and a member of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra.
Mobile audiences know Robert J. Seebacher from his years as music director of
the Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra. He is now music director and conductor of the
Johnson City Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee, Marlene and David Grissom Associate
Professor of Music and director of instrumental programs at Centre College and Assistant
Conductor of the National Chorale in New York.
MSO’s next concert is Holiday Cheer, Dec. 13 and 14, 2025, with jazz duo Lelm
& Langford bringing life to a sleigh full of holiday favorites. This annual Christmas
concert is a holiday tradition for families all along the Gulf Coast.
