Notice of Upcoming Changes Related to Baldwin County Permits Effective October 1, 2024

Changes to the Baldwin County Building Department Trade Permit Fees:

Trade Permit fees for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or fire protection sprinklers will decrease from 2% to 1.5% of the job valuation, retaining the same minimum fee based on project type.

Fire protection sprinkler fees will have a maximum of $125 for residential and $250 for non-residential projects.

View the full fee schedule at https://baldwincountyal.gov/departments/building-inspection/permit-fees.

Changes to the Permitting Process for Residential Construction:

Baldwin County has streamlined the permit application process for residential construction. Only one application is needed for projects that required separate Highway Department Residential Driveway Permits, Planning and Zoning Department Zoning Site Plan Approvals, Building Department Building Permits, and/or Coastal Area Program Permits.

Submit a single Building Permit application (for each structure), and it will be reviewed by all relevant departments. For new one- and two-family homes, manufactured and modular installations, and swimming pools, applicants will also have the option to include trade permits (electrical, mechanical, plumbing) within the Building Permit application.

Submit applications online through the CitizenServe Portal at www.BaldwinCountyAL.gov/CSP.

Note: If you have a “Building Permit (Residential)” or “Building Permit (Commercial/Multi-Family)” application saved for later in your portal account cart, it will no longer be accessible after October 1st. After that date, you must start a new permit application with the type “Building Permit”.

Business License Renewal Reminder for Contractors:

Contractors must have an active State of Alabama business license before permits are issued. Licenses expire on September 30th and should be renewed through the Baldwin County Probate Office in October. For online renewals, visit the Probate Office website at https://baldwincountyal.gov/government/probate-office/renew-online/business-license.

After obtaining your 2025 business license, please upload a copy to your CitizenServe Portal. If you have received a new or updated contractor license recently, please upload a copy of that as well. Log in at www.BaldwinCountyAL.gov/CSP, click My Account, then Update My Information. In the license section, click the down arrows to choose the license type and to browse your PC to select the file to attach. Be sure to click Submit at the bottom of the page.

Any newly uploaded licenses will be reviewed, verified, and updated the next time you submit a permit application to the Building Department.
