Bayside’s Annie Midyett and Avery Therrell Named Mobile Optimist Club’s Runners of the Week
Daphne, Ala., November 1, 2023 – Bayside Academy junior Annie Midyett and 7th grader Avery Therrell were selected by the Mobile Optimist Club as 1A–5A Runners of the Week. Annie and Avery, along with Coach Joe Swagart, were recognized at the Mobile Optimist Club’s luncheon on Thursday, October 6, 2023.
Annie is one of Bayside’s young women’s team captains. Annie was recognized for her performance at the Jesse Owens Classic, where she finished 67th in a strong and talented field of over 200 runners across 30 schools, helping our young women to a 10th place finish in the elite division. She finished with a time of 19:36. This is Annie’s fourth time to be recognized as a runner of the week, and as a freshman, she was recognized by the Mobile Optimist Club as runner of the year for 1A-5A, where she was an individual 4A State Champion that season.
Like Annie, Avery began cross country with our youth development program, and she has quickly become one of our top five young women. She was recognized for her fifth-place finish at the Baldwin County Championships, where she earned All-County honors. Her time of 21:09 is a strong time for the course at Bicentennial Park; however, her strongest time this year (20:04) she ran at the Daphne Invite. We are looking forward to seeing Avery break 20 minutes at State!
Bayside Academy is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school for students in Grades PK3–12.
