Mitigation or Adaptation - How Our Coastal Economy Can Be More Resilient in the Face of Certain Change

 

Mobile, Ala. - On Wednesday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m. at GulfQuest National Maritime Museum in downtown Mobile, Alabama, Coastal Conversations will host their next program featuring leading experts discussing “Sea Rise and the Impact to Our Coastal Economy, A Coastal Conversation” including:

 

 

  • Dr. Reid Cummings, Associate Professor of Finance and Real Estate and Executive Director, SABRE (South Alabama Center for Business Analytics, Real Estate and Economic Development
  • Justin McDonaldChief of Programs and Project Management for Civil Works at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District
  • Casi (kc) Callaway, Chief Resilience Officer with the City of Mobile.

 

 

 

Speakers will explore topics such as the vulnerabilities of coastal infrastructure, the effects on tourism and recreational activities, challenges faced by the fishing industry, impacts to home and business owners, and shifts in real estate markets due to sea rise, storm surge and increased intensity of natural phenomenon.

 

Additionally, Mr. McDonald will share the Alabama Coastal Comprehensive Plan (ACCP), a proactive and stakeholder-driven planning tool designed to facilitate a greater understanding of the dynamic social, environmental, and economic landscapes that comprise the Coastal Alabama community. Ms. Callaway will provide an update on the City of Mobile's Resilience Assessment and Dr. Cummings will share results and trends from academic and industry research.

 

The public is invited to this engaging and informative discussion on the pressing issue of sea rise and its profound effects on the coastal economy of Alabama. Legislative leaders, local government officials, and anyone charged with implementing infrastructure changes will greatly benefit from this discussion.

 

Coastal Conversations is a program of Coastal Alabama Partnership and is a platform for citizens to engage with experts who will provide leading edge information and share big ideas.
