AUSTAL USA CONTINUES ANNUAL TRADITION OF GIVING BACK TO EMPLOYEES WITH TURKEY TOSS EVENT
MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA celebrated its annual "turkey toss" event this week by handing out turkeys to its workforce of over 3,000 employees. This cherished tradition, which began over a decade ago when Austal USA had less than 1,000 employees, has become a major company and community event.
As a token of appreciation for the company’s hardworking employees, Austal USA ensures that every employee receives a turkey. In addition, the company also extends its generosity to local charities, such as Feeding the Gulf Coast, by delivering turkeys to support their Thanksgiving meal packages for those in need within the community.
“This tradition allows us to celebrate all of the successes we’ve experienced this year with our hardworking and dedicated workforce,” said Austal USA Acting President Michelle Kruger. “This is just one way we’ve found to give back to our amazing employees and the awesome community that supports us so wholeheartedly.”
This year has been a rewarding one for Austal USA. The company increased its order book substantially with two multi-ship Navy contracts providing a potential value of $3.29 billion. Early in the year, Austal USA celebrated the opening of a 15-acre waterfront service facility for small Navy and Coast Guard vessels adjacent to the U.S. Navy base in San Diego. They delivered three Navy ships and started construction on three more plus air craft elevators for Ford-class aircraft carriers and several modules for Virginia- and Columbia-class submarines. Earlier this week, Austal USA also laid the keel for its first steel ship, the future USNS Billy Frank, Jr. (T-ATS 11). Most importantly, Austal USA employees were recognized, yet again, by the Shipbuilders Council of America for safety improvement and excellence, an honor they take very seriously and work hard for year after year.
