Community Meeting ''The Dangers of Fentanyl'' - March 21

Someone dies from an overdose every five minutes in the United States.  Seventy percent of these deaths are from fentanyl and fear is that the situation may get worse.

The Fairhope Police Department will host a phenomenal speaker from Birmingham next week to discuss this important issue.  You do not want to miss it!  There will be an event open to the public, Tuesday 21st at 6 p.m. A second round will be held Wednesday 22nd for juniors and seniors during the school day.  Both will be held in the Fairhope High School gymnasium.

1.Fentanyl is primarily distributed through fake pills which are easily bought online and through social media. Many are made to look like prescription drugs such as oxycodone (Oxycontin®, Percocet®), hydrocodone (Vicodin®), and alprazolam (Xanax®); or stimulants like amphetamines (Adderall®). While looking like the real deal, they are often filler, fentanyl and deadly.

2.  Some vapes and CBD products are also testing positive for fentanyl. Not all these products are altered, but many sold on the street or internet are certainly suspect – and across the country some in-store purchases have also been found to be contaminated with the deadly drug.

3.  Fentanyl showing up in marijuana is highly debated and some even call it a myth. The fact is that our own officers have conducted field tests on marijuana with a positive result for fentanyl. Our goal is simply to provide you with information to keep you safe.
