USA Health is excited to announce the opening of the new Pediatric Emergency Center at Children’s & Women’s Hospital. Uniquely designed for patients 18 and under, it is the only facility on the Alabama Gulf Coast dedicated to caring for sick and injured children 24 hours a day, every day. Board-certified physicians, specially trained pediatric nursing staff, and child life specialists offer the highest level of care available when every second counts.
USA Health understands that bringing a child or teenager to the emergency department can be an overwhelming experience. That’s why they focus on offering family-centered care to make sure patients and their caregivers receive the support they need. They also know that children are not little adults. Kids have unique physical and emotional needs. The newly expanded emergency department – themed with sea life and soothing shades of blue and green – was thoughtfully planned to better meet the needs of all children who come through their doors.
The state-of-the-art facility provides more space for parents and caregivers to be with their children and offers strategies to help calm and support patients during their emergency visit. For example, a sensory room is designed to support multiple sensory needs while providing the opportunity for children to develop effective coping skills. The center also includes two behavioral health rooms and a private space dedicated to pediatric sexual assault patients.
USA Health, the health system of the University of South Alabama, melds patient care, research, and healthcare education into the most advanced medical care in the region.
