Mobile Symphony Ends Season with Blockbuster John Williams Jubilee May 21 and 22
The Mobile Symphony Orchestra (MSO) ends its season with a blockbuster tribute to America’s favorite composer – John Williams – Saturday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 22, at 2:30 p.m., at Mobile’s historic Saenger Theatre. For seven decades, his magical music has transformed movies like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jaws, Schindler’s List and more. The concert is packed with music from America’s most beloved movies.
“We are thrilled to pay tribute to the unbelievably versatile John Williams, the 52-time Oscar nominee (you read that right!), who will have his 90th birthday shortly before this concert,” Scott Speck, music director, explains. “I’ve been a huge admirer since my teens. Over the years the music of John Williams has become synonymous with the spirit that we, as Americans, still strive to attain. It’s fair to say that John Williams has created the soundtrack of our lives.”
This massive concert assembles the largest orchestra the MSO has placed on stage since before the COVID pandemic. The program includes selections from Star Wars, Jaws, Far and Away, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan, Hook, Schindler’s List, Harry Potter, Lincoln and E.T.
Tickets are on sale now for $20-$89. Student tickets are $10. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone at 251-432-2010 or at the symphony box office, 257 Dauphin Street. Through MSO’s Big Red Ticket program, sponsored by the Alabama Power Foundation, students in grades K-12 can attend any of the season’s six classical Sunday performances for free when accompanied by a paying adult (excludes special events like the annual holiday concert). Based on new CDC guidance and decline in COVID cases in our area, masks will not be required at these performances. The MSO will continue to welcome and encourage
