Bailey Recognized with Two Prestigious Awards
MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA -- Owen Bailey, M.S.H.A., FACHE, chief executive officer and senior associate vice president for medical affairs at USA Health, the University of South Alabama’s health system located in Mobile, was honored with two prestigious awards at the Alabama Hospital Association’s recent annual meeting.
The AlaHA Distinguished Service Award was given to Bailey to recognize his outstanding achievement in service to Alabama’s hospitals and their patients. He was also selected for the AlaHA Grassroots Award for his exceptional leadership in generating grassroots and community support of the important mission of hospitals. “Owen has provided tremendous leadership for the Association in a number of areas,” said Donald E. Williamson, MD, president of the Alabama Hospital Association. “He has served as chairman of the board of trustees, as a delegate to the American Hospital Association, as a local hospital council president and as chair of numerous Association committees. These two awards reflect that level of service and are well deserved.”
Bailey previously served as administrator of USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital, president, and chief executive officer of Thomas Hospital, and as an executive vice president for Infirmary Health System.
A fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives, he has served on the boards of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, the University of Mobile, Business
Council of Alabama, United Way of Southwest Alabama, LifeSouth Community Blood Centers and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile. He is past chairman of the AlaHA Board of Trustees and the Southwest Council, Mobile Area Education Foundation and the Southwest Alabama Workforce Development Council.
Bailey has received numerous awards, including the Up and Comer Award from Modern Healthcare magazine, the Young Healthcare Executive of the Year and the Regent’s Award from the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Founded in 1921, the Alabama Hospital Association is a statewide trade organization that assists member hospitals in effectively serving the health care needs of Alabama, through advocacy, representation, education, and service.
