BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Coastal Alabama Community College is giving new life to some of the oldest buildings on its Bay Minette Campus as part of a major renovation project designed to modernize learning spaces while preserving the campus’s history.
The buildings, which date to the mid and late 1960s, have served generations of students, faculty, and staff. The planned renovations will provide a significant renovation to these historic campus facilities and create updated, functional spaces to better serve the Coastal Alabama community for years to come.
The project, which affects the Meadows Library and the Stone Classroom (C) Building will begin construction since the approval came from the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees on August 12, 2026.
“The Library Services division is thrilled to see this investment in our students and in the future of our college,” said Director of Library Services for Coastal Alabama, Alisha Bowen. “This renovation will allow us to create a library and a welcoming space where generations of students can learn, connect, and make lasting memories for years to come.”
Upon completion of the project, academic classrooms, faculty offices, and library services will have a new home within the renovated facilities. The improvements will provide students with modern academic environments while giving faculty and staff improved spaces to support teaching, learning, and student success.
“The Bay Minette campus has a rich history, and these buildings have been an important part of Coastal Alabama’s story for decades,” said President of Coastal Alabama, Dr. Aaron Milner. “This project allows us to honor that history while creating new spaces that meet the needs of today’s students, faculty, and staff.”
The renovation is part of Coastal Alabama Community College’s ongoing commitment to investing in its campuses and providing students with high-quality facilities that support academic achievement and workforce development.
“These renovations will provide enhanced instructional experiences while maintaining the rich legacy of historic buildings that were part of the birth of junior, community, and technical colleges in Alabama,” Dean of Academic Instruction, Dr. Mary Beth Lancaster, said. “We are proud of our faculty and the expertise they bring to the classroom, and these building enhancements will only strengthen those environments for our students and faculty.”
As construction progresses, Coastal Alabama Community College looks forward to welcoming students, faculty, staff, and the community into the newly renovated spaces upon completion.
