Baldwin County, AL – On July 31st, the Baldwin County Education Coalition proudly announced the official signing of an agreement with JLS International to establish the JLS International Vocational Scholarship Endowment Fund. This new initiative aims to support Baldwin County public school students pursuing Career and Technical Education (CTE).
Jeffery L. Smith, Owner & President, JLS International, a mechanical contractor with longstanding ties to Baldwin County, recognizes the importance of vocational and technical training in preparing students for successful careers. In partnership with the Coalition, JLS International has committed $500,000 to endow the scholarship fund, with the intent to reach $1 million, which will exclusively benefit CTE students.
Mr. Smith made an initial contribution of $250,000, with another $250,000 donation planned for December 2024. Additional donations will made as funds become available. The endowment is open to further contributions from both corporate and individual donors who share a commitment to advancing technical education for Baldwin County students.
CTE equips students with practical skills and hands-on experience that directly apply to the workforce. It prepares students for high-demand careers across various industries, ensuring they are job-ready upon graduation. CTE promotes economic growth by filling skill gaps and addressing employers' needs. The JLS International Vocational Scholarship Fund will help remove financial barriers for students pursuing technical careers.
The JLS International Vocational Scholarship Fund will be administered by a scholarship committee appointed by the Coalition’s Board of Directors. Annual scholarships, each valued at $1,000, will be awarded upon graduation. These scholarships can be used to cover tuition for certifications, or to purchase tools and equipment necessary for the recipient to begin their career.
