Southern Cancer Center Welcomes Dr. Rachael Harmon
Southern Cancer Center is pleased to welcome board-certified radiation oncologist Dr. Rachael Harmon to our team. With nearly a decade of clinical experience, Dr. Harmon brings a wealth of knowledge in a broad range of cancers including prostate, breast, lung, head and neck, gastrointestinal, and gynecological malignancy. The only female radiation oncologist practicing solely in Baldwin County, she is now accepting patients at our Daphne and Foley radiation clinic locations.
“My interest in science and background in engineering, coupled with a deep desire to help others, is what drew me to radiation oncology. Through the years, I have learned the importance of listening to each patient. Cancer affects everyone in different ways and each patient has their own story to share,” said Dr. Harmon. “My ultimate goal is to treat every patient as I’d want my family treated, offering them a depth of expertise and compassion throughout their care. Cancer is more than a physical disease and it requires a compilation of necessary support. That’s why I’m excited to join a practice like Southern Cancer Center and treat the whole patient, not just their cancer.”
Originally from Lafayette, Louisiana, Dr. Harmon received a pair of Bachelor of Engineering degrees from Vanderbilt University, then a medical degree from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She then completed an internal medicine internship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Austin, followed by a radiation oncology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Since 2015, Dr. Harmon has been working in private practice in New Orleans, and most recently was selected among an elite group of community leaders to complete the Women’s Leadership Academy continuing education program at Loyola University.
